Situation
The largest power utility company in Kenya wants to extend its SCADA system to cater for existing distribution stations in the different regions of the country. However, the cost of their current core STM-4/16 network would be too high in case it is used for SCADA applications. The customer finally decides to build an independent STM-1 ring network strictly to transport SCADA services with low latency, deterministic transport paths and larger capacity.
Solution
Loop offers a cost-effective STM1 (SDH, PDH) ring network solution and deploys Loop-IP6820 GBE self-healing switch at the station where RTU’s communication protocol is 104 and IP6810 for RS232 Serial communication. At SFH level, the O9500R with 8GESW high-speed plugin card is used to encapsulate Ethernet traffic to be carried over SDH (EoS) network. Loop-IP6820 offers both GBE LAN Ports and WAN Trunk ports which can be the ideal solution for future Ethernet Data Transport expansions. The high speed 8GE card provides a reliable way to carry a large haul of Ethernet Traffic over SDH (EoS) Network for faster Data switching and transport.
